Job description

Under the responsibility of the Director General and working closely with the Director of Health and Safety, the Prevention Officer acts as a resource person for prevention on Quebec and Ontarian shipyards as well as ABF factories located in Quebec. in Victoriaville and Chateauguay. The person's main mandate is to promote the company's prevention culture and to develop relevant procedures and analyzes related to health and safety prevention.

  • Conduct audits and inspections following OHS activities patrols and ensure ongoing compliance with health and safety protocols at the site by all contractors and visitors
  • Develop communication and mobilization plans to promote awareness, through the implementation of appropriate tools, to ensure the motivation and participation of all site and plant personnel on the importance of prevention
  • Organizes and delivers required OHS training by supporting and taking over trainers as needed
  • Coordinates accident and event investigation processes to make recommendations following rigorous on-site investigations
  • Maintains program compliance such as: WHMIS, emergency procedures, first aid, etc. and targets skills development priorities
  • Identifies, evaluates and proposes corrective actions for risks related to existing equipment and processes as well as for new equipment and processes aimed at the elimination at source of risks and injuries at work.

Required skills

  • Minimum 3 years of experience
  • Construction site safety officer card issued by CNESST
  • Experience in the field of construction, an asset
  • Certification in health and safety at work
  • Mandatory bilingualism
  • Knowledge of the application of COR Ontarian (Certificate of recognition), an asset
  • Knowledge of Quebec, Ontario and Canadian OHS legislation
  • Mastery of the construction safety code
  • Valid driver's license;

Training requirements

  • University degree in OHS;
  • Construction site safety officer card issued by CNESST

Available for travel mainly in the territory of Montreal, Ontario and at Victoriaville's head office. Other places may be added depending on the location of the sites.
